What exactly does
Mr. SandlessTM
do? |
|
There are two types of traditional sanding. The first is a light
sanding where they do the surface and put on a single
coat of urethane. It takes 1-2 days and costs about $400
per room. This is also known as screen sanding, grit pad
sanding, or re-coating. The 2nd is a full sand out,
where they sand away 1/16th to an 1/8th of an inch off
your floor and they put on a couple coats of urethane.
It takes 4-7 days and costs about $900/room. Our service
quality-wise falls right in the middle. We use a process
very similar to sanding but with a special non-toxic
solution. We actually get deeper into the wood than a
light sanding. Then we seal the floor with our own brand
of finish. It looks like urethane, lasts likes urethane,
and you clean it like urethane. But unlike urethane
there is no odor, and it dries in one hour. So we can
literally seal your floor with multiple coats in just a
few hours. This is why our floors look so good and last
so long! Then you can walk right on your floor and put
furniture down as soon as we are finished. Best of all,
we are about half the price of sanding. |
|
|
|
How long does it
take? |
|
There are a few factors that influence the amount of time we
spend, such as if we will be moving and replacing your
furniture, how many rooms we will be servicing, and how
high the humidity is, which will add time to the curing
process. But generally speaking, we can be in and out of
most jobs between four and six hours. For a more
specific time, just give us a call! We'll be more than
happy to discuss the details of your floors with you! |
|
|
|
What kind of finish
do you use? |
|
We use our own brand of wood floor finish. It is a one of a kind,
21st Century proprietary solution. There is nothing like
it on the market today and can not be purchased in any
store. We have tested it against every other floor
finish that is available in the market today, and
nothing compares to what we use! |
|
|
|
How durable is your
finish? |
|
Our proprietary finish has been extensively tested for
durability. Before we opened Mr. Sandless™, our finish
was tested for three years and hundreds of real world
floors, with 100% customer satisfaction. We have
complete confidence in our service and finish, and this
is why we have thousands of satisfied customers! Best
of all, we seal every floor we service with multiple
coats. When a seal is achieved, moisture and dirt can
not penetrate to the wood, and this is why after 8
years, we have never had a client call to say it didn’t
last. |
|
|
|
How long does it
last? |
|
We offer a five year warranty that our finish will not peel,
crack, chip, or yellow! There are many variables that go
into determining durability, but generally speaking,
with proper care, a floor finished by Mr. Sandless will
last for many years. Our polymer has the same properties
as urethane, and so the durability is the same as water
based urethane. To increase the durability, we will
apply multiple coats to seal the floor for no additional
cost to you. |

What can you do with
pet stains? |
|
Pet stains are common problems we see. These dark black marks
often go all the way through so if the board is turned
over, the stain will still be there. Whether you use our
service or sand these stains, they normally won’t come
out. The industry standard in this case is to recommend
board replacement, unless you can hide the damaged
sections of the floor with furniture or an area rug. In
those cases, we will just proceed with our service. And
if you’d like board replacement, we have master
carpenters on staff to handle that for you. More on pet
stains: Pet urine forms bacteria within 24 hours. The
bacteria eats through the urethane and into the board,
and continues on through the board until it turns dark
and is ruined. We can also color the floor to hide the
damage as well. |
|
|
|
My floor has
different shades. Can you blend these? |
|
Yes! Please perform this simple test. Take a cloth and wet it.
Rub the cloth over a small section of the floor. The
moment the floor is wet, this is the color and tone your
floor will be when our service is complete. Most floors
are not stained a color. The color is achieved when a
finish is applied, which brings out the natural tones
and warmth of the floor boards. The color depends on the
type of wood used. For blending purposes, please perform
the wet test on an area where the different colors meet.
If the two blend when wet, then the colors will blend
with our service. If not, can you live with the slight
color difference? Most people won’t notice. You can also
use area rugs. Are you planning on using area rugs any
way? If so, there is no reason you shouldn’t proceed
with service. If someone sanded around an area rug, we
can blend that out for you as well! |
|
|
|
Can I change the
color of my floor? |
|
Yes! If you have a floor that is rich in patina, we recommend
that you allow our finish to bring out the natural color
and tone of the floor. The color is in the wood and it
is brought out by the finish. To see the color of your
floor, we suggest the wet test listed above. If the
floor is not the tone you would like to see, we can add
one of multiple different colors to achieve the look you
want. |
|
|
|
Can you refinish a
waxed floor? |
|
Yes! Our service will remove the wax so that we can properly seal
the floors. The good thing about wax it is that it
really does protect the floor, and so in most cases, we
end up with a floor that is nearly new—even if it is
many years old. The bad thing about wax is that as it
breaks down, it holds onto the dirt rather than to repel
it. Once the wax is removed, new and dramatic color can
be seen! |
|
|
|
I’ve used an acrylic
product I bought online. Can you still refinish my
floors? |
|
Yes! Our service can remove any of the online or over the counter
inexpensive floor finishes that are on the market, even
if they are chipping or uneven. Be sure to tell your
service technician what you used and they will know how
to take care of your floor! |
|
|
|
I have an
“engineered” floor and another laminate floor. Can you
refinish these? |
|
Yes! Our service is perfect for all of the modern engineered and
laminate flooring on the market today! We can seal the
floor and renew the finish for an even better protection
than when it was first installed. |
|
|
|
I have paint
splatters and spills on my floor. Can you remove the
paint? |
|
Yes! Just about every floor we service has paint drips and
splatters. Some are literally covered in paint. Our
proprietary process will remove the paint. One of the
best things about our service is we do not allow
anything to remain on the floor surface before we seal
it. |
|
|
|
Does it fix gaps in
the floor boards? |
|
The only way to truly fix gaps in floor boards is to replace the
boards or the floor. Some gaps are naturally occurring
from the shrinking and expanding of the home during
different weather changes. These gaps should be left as
is. Some floors we serviced have large gaps, and the
owners love that look! |
|
|
|
We were told our
floors cannot be sanded again. Is that true? |
|
Floor boards, which are finished wood, are generally very thin.
Most floors can only be sanded between 1-2 times. There
are several reasons a floor can't be sanded, such as,
moisture has crept into the boards, the nails are
showing but the board is too thin to reset them, or the
floor is warped and uneven. There are two good things I
can tell you though. Our process is completely
NON-destructive and never harms the wood! Also, we have
done floors with one, two, or all of the problems listed
above, and all had outstanding results! It is always
worth giving us a chance to see what we can do with your
floor before you consider replacing it! |
|
|
|
We have several
spots from various spills/etc on our floor. Will they
come out? |
|
There are many factors when it comes to our process, to determine
what will or won't come out. These include the type of
wood, how much urethane is on it, or for that matter,
what other chemicals are on it, and what type of stain
it is. We are always completely honest when we come to
service your floors. We will tell you the stains we know
will come out, point out the ones that might, and show
you the ones that may be up in the air. Every floor and
condition is unique, but we will try our best to get
your floors even looking |

I'm considering
pulling up my carpets. Any suggestions? |
|
Pulling up the carpets is a lot of work! Here's
how I did mine:
1.
Cut a section at a time with a carpet knife (without
cutting into the floor!)
2.
Roll that section up, and then pull up that section of
padding.
3.
Use pliers (almost any kind will do, but some are easier
on the hands than others) to remove the staples that
held down the pad. Pull them straight up, as this will
leave the smallest mark in the floor. If they are tight
to the floor, tap a small screw driver under them just
enough to use the pliers.
4.
Then, use a pry bar to pull up the tack board that runs
around the room. Those nails are sharp, so use care!
Remove left behind nails with a hammer claw or pry bar.
During our preparation for finishing the floors after carpet
removal, we will fill any holes that are noticeable. We
also offer quarter round installation. That is the piece
of trim that is removed when carpet is installed, so
that they can lay the tack board against the wall. We
custom cut, stain and finish the quarter round to tie
your floor to the wall in a spectacular fashion! We also
can move your furniture and pull your carpets up for
you! Call us today! |
